DIY Kitchen Cabinets

Posted by Mirna,

You´ve taken a good look at your kitchen, considered style and practicality, and have come up with your ideal kitchen cabinets.  But now you´ve hit the shops or consulted with a carpenter, and you can´t believe the prices. It´s back to the drawing board -- literally.  It´s easy to find DIY cabinet design templates online or from your local library.  If you have woodworking skills and basic tools, DIY may be your way to go.  DIY kitchen cabinets let you customize the look you want at a fraction of the cost.As you follow the instructions for your particular cabinets, bear these tips in mind:- Remember to select materials that are appropriate for the look of your space, and for the templates you´ve selected.  - If your cabinet doors will have wooden frames, you can use the same plywood you´ve used for the structure for the faces. Use 1 X 6 lumber for the frames.- Be sure to pre-drill for any nails to avoid damaging any plywood.- "Measure twice, cut once."  However skilled you are at do-it-yourself jobs, remember the old adage. Cabinet doors typically need at least a 1/4 inch overhang to close nicely.
